Week 1 Recap: Jets rout the Lions 48-17

I know I’m a little late but here is my recap from that stellar performance the Jets turned in this past Monday night. Well, this is not what I actually expected heading into week one on Monday Night Football away against the Lions. I did indeed anticipate a close game, I mean the Lions aren’t world beaters and we all know the Jets are better then what the media portrays we are. The Jets played the most complete game I have seen in quite some time – if ever, granted I dont anticipate this kind of performance every game but it’s good to know they are capable of putting together this type of game. Coming home to open up against Miami presents the Jets with a great opportunity to start 2-0, but they can not overlook this team – the crowd will be loud and into it from the start, they need to come out fast and take care of business early.

Week 1 Observations:

  • Darnold uhm started a little slow I’d say – but boy did he settle in and bounce right back. He is a good quarterback who will in time develop into a great one, I expect him to continue to take strides in the right direction. He finished 16/21 with 198 yards for 2 TD’s and 1 INT.
  • Did the Jets miss Quincy Enunwa or what? The guy is such an underrated play maker, its crazy. His one touchdown and multiple third down conversions kept this game within reach until our 31 point explosion in the third quarter. I fully anticipate Enunwa to become Darnold’s “go to guy” from here on out. Look for him and Kearse to carve up teams in the middle of the field, leaving Robby and Pryor on the outside.
  • This defense is fast, young and plays with a chip on their shoulder, having Trumaine Johnson in at CB1 and sliding Skrine back to his natural position in the slot makes this defense so much better. With the crowd loud on Sunday I expect this unit to continue their turnover trend and keep this Miami offense in check.
  • Finally! This special teams group put together a solid performance, when was the last time we saw a punt return for a touchdown. I am very impressed with Andre Roberts, Charon Peake, Jason Myers and Lachlan Edwards. If this group can continue to play well the Jets offense and defense will be put in favorable positions to score points and wins some games.
